Stop 98 - Kiel

Our last postcard has been sent to Kiel, in Germany, 1887 kilometers away!


The postcard was sent to Sylvia. It was sent by Aurkene, a C1.2 student who wrote on a postcard featuring a representation of two arches and a column by Alfonso Costa, a painting 'The voice of the stone" (A voz da pedra).


On the back, Aurkene invites Sylvia to visit us, and informs her a little bit about the Santiago Way. She also includes a very original stamp on the card, which can act as a printing rubber seal!

This postcard was sent to us from Brazil. It was sent by Jairo, who lives in Belo Horizonte, 7850 kilometers away!

Jairo's postcard was a direct swap. The picture on it was actually a hologram, which changes depending on the direction you are looking at it. In one you can see pope Francis at the Vatican; in another, a cityscape (Santa Catarina, with its lovely beach); the last one, if I remember well, was a big image of Jesus Christ.

Toruń is a Unesco World Heritage Site, the hometown of Copernicus and an old city full of history and landmarks; and some of them can be viewed on the card that was sent to us. On the top right is the Gothic Old Town Hall (Ratusz Staromiejski) which dates back to the 13th century; below it, the Cathedral, from the same historical period and displaying the characteristically Nordic brick architecture; in the middle is the Star House, one of the most sumptuous and best preserved Baroque patrician houses in Central and Northern Europe; on the left is an assortment of other monuments.

On the card, we can see a flock of Finnish sheep! I imagine they might be rather usual in Päivi's area - she clearly lives in a small town, near the countryside.


On the back we learn about the relatively high temperature Finland was having in May (21 degrees!) and we can read some nice words and good wishes about our language learning.

Postcrossing Meetup (Received Cards): GAIL from the USA

This postcard was sent to us from the USA. It was sent by Gail, who lives in Cincinnati, 6143 kilometers away!


On the card we can seea riverboat in Gail's own city. Although a vintage form of transportation today, in the 19th century Paddlewheel steamboats were very important and they were the best means of transportation in America's great rivers, like the Ohio or the Mississippi.


On the back, Gail tells us a few things about Cincinnati: the importance of its riverfront and activities / places near it.
