Postcrossing Meetup (Received Cards): DAVID from THE USA

David (or humphred) is an exceptional postcrosser.  After receiving our address he decided to send us not one, not two, not three, but a grand total of EIGHT postcards in a row! All of them are interesting and varied, and provide us with lots of visual and textual information on the US.

David lives near Washington DC, some 5607 kilometers away, and most of the cards show sights of the capital.

In the first of the postcards, David introduces himself to us with a postcard on which appear the main monuments and memorials of the capital. All of them are conmemorative of America's wars and its soldiers.

In the second card we get to see a cart of the 'Amish' for sale. The Amish are a well-known religious and ethnic commmunity who live with their backs turned on progress and modernity: a piece of the 17th century living inside modern-day America.

The third postcard takes us south, to the state of Georgia and the Stone Mountain, which has a famous bas-relief on the rock's face with some of the generals and great figures of the Confederate States of America, the losing side of the American Civil War.

Number 4 takes us back to the district of Columbia with a picture of the Arlington National cemetery, were war heroes are buried. The image reminds David of President Kennedy's funeral, which he witnessed when he was young.

Out again with the next postcard, here we get to view one of the famous views of Colorado: the rock-dwellings of the Native American Indians from before the arrival of the Spaniards.

In postcard 6 we get to see the State of University of Ohio, where David used to teach some years ago. He explains to us how different US universities are to European ones: almost all of them are very recent and quite modern.

Postcard 7 includes the view of a bridge. Not the Golden Gate, but another one, in Florida, which David used to cross.

Finally, the last postcard includes a picture of the present US president Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle.

Thanks a lot, David, for all these beautiful postcards, their lovely stamps and all the treasure trove of information you have provided with them!!
